Sanda pulverized Karate yet again

散打再次粉碎空手

On 23/11/2003 at the Beijing Workers Stadium, Dadojuku Karate founder Azuma (right) led a team of 6 fighters, including 1 lady, to challenge the Sanda fighters of Qianwei (Vanguard) Fight Club once again, only to be totally pulverized because Azuma could not field his best fighters at this time; they have to take part in another major tournament in Japan on 30/11. The fighters of Qianwei, who are mostly non-professionals from the police force, can be considered 2nd class in China as compared to those of the King of Sanda circuit.

The 6 Sanda fighters from Qianwei did give an outstanding performance, achieving a 6 : 0 win over Daidojuku Karate, but that was only because of the low standard of Azuma's band of amateurs. In a way, he have betrayed the honor of full-contact karate once again by such an act. This was most unbecoming of him, pandering to the Chinese desire to feel invincible in that way considering he was one of Mas Oyama's 1st generation disciples.

The flamboyant Chinese lass Yang Guang beating Japanese rival Yamazaki to a pulp. This girl has got great potential as a Sanda fighter!

To add flavor to this tournament the Chinese organizers arranged a special female 55kg bout between 21 yr old Yang Guang and Yamazaki, who was 8 years older than her rival. Yang easily defeated the Japanese lady, who was more of a training dummy than anything. So did the 58kg category fighter Zeng Ling, Shao Wujie of the 62kg catergory and Sun Zongbao of the 76kg category. They defeated the awkward Japanese with absolute superiority. Worse performance by them was seen in the 71kg bout , where Sun Tao's Japanese opponent voluntarily threw in the towel only 1 minute into the 3rd round. Not much of bushido spirit here as we can see. Only Yoshino of the 66kg category showed some of that spirit when he continued to fight despite his elbow being injured by Yu Yang's hard throws. Another Japanese fighter worth mentioning was Zeng Ling's opponent, who demonstrated some good Muaythai knee techniques; but they were not enough to win the bout against a seasoned Zeng who used the rules to his advantage. Let us look at the rest of the fight pictures.

*The 2nd International Police Kickboxing Tournament, organized by Qianwei, would be held in Germany on 25/02/2004 next year.
